Baking Soda from Arm & Hammer is a pure and multifunctional product and is a natural mineral, without aluminum and an ecologically responsible alternative to much more expensive products. In its use, Baking Soda will not harm the environment as it is biodegradable and can therefore also be used by humans and animals.
Applications
Baking soda is used, among other things, as a leavening agent (as part of baking powder, but can also be used separately from baking powder in all kinds of baking products), acidity regulator, stabilizer and within the medical world as a remedy against excess stomach acid.
Baking soda is both a cleaning agent and a component of baking powder. Add baking soda together with something acidic to a batter. For example, buttermilk, yogurt or lemon juice. This is a prerequisite for good rising. Use one teaspoon of lemon juice for every two grams of baking soda. Most recipes use one teaspoon of baking soda, which is equivalent to a weight of two grams. To make baking powder yourself, use this ratio (for 120 grams of flour):
- half a teaspoon of baking soda;
- 1 teaspoon tartaric acid powder or lemon juice
This baking powder cannot be stored for a long time and is therefore for immediate use. It starts working immediately when it comes into contact with an acid. It is therefore added to the batter as late as possible. It must be mixed well for an even distribution in the batter. If you want to be able to store baking powder for a little longer, choose the recipe below:
- 15 gram baking soda;
- 18 grams of tartaric acid
- 11 grams of cornstarch (this is added to extract moisture and slow down the reaction between acid and base.
Another simpler recipe is the following:
- 2 part baking soda;
- 1 part tartaric acid
- 1 part cornstarch
